Reuben shines through 4th Chemo treatment
Reuben has osteosarcoma, which is bone cancer. He is 3 years old and was diagnosed in January 2007. Amputation of his rear leg was the first step to getting rid of the major part of the cancer. Just like a greyhound, he tears around the yard on 3 legs like he was never missing anything! He is currently undgergoing 6 rounds of Chemotherepy which is administered intraveiniously. Unlike humans, dogs don't have very many side effects. In fact, he has had no problems at all--you'd never know he's supposed to have cancer. We have to x-ray his chest every once in a while to make sure the cancer has not spread into his lungs. Most dogs (60%) with this kind of cancer only live for 1 year, even with amputation and chemo. We are praying that Reuben is the exception. He gets antioxidant chews every day and is on a carb-free diet. The dog eats better than we do! If anyone else is expierencing the same kind of cancer and needs a little support, feel free to post a comment.
